What we collect, and why

Buy a ticket, pre-register, join a guest list or book a table and we collect your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, what you booked and your entry record. We also collect your email address when you unlock a photo gallery, your message when you write to us, and CCTV footage and a record of your ID scan when you come to the venue.

We use it to sell tickets and run the door, to meet our liquor licence conditions, to keep guests and staff safe, to answer you, and — only if you ticked the box — to send you marketing. Some booking checks and follow-up emails are automated, so you may hear from us about a booking without a person having read it first. Otherwise you can deal with us anonymously: pay cash at the door, buy a drink, ask us a question.

Photos taken at the club

Photographers work in the public areas on event nights, so a photo of you can end up in a public gallery without you doing anything. Ask us and it comes down — no reason needed, normally within two business days. Email us a link to the gallery and enough detail to find the photo, and say if you also want it out of the original files we keep.

CCTV and ID scanning at the door

CCTV covers the venue throughout and records whenever we are open. Footage is kept for 60 days, then overwritten. Only management and security can see it, and we may give it to police in connection with an incident or where the law requires.

Your ID is scanned at entry to confirm you are over 18 and that the ID is genuine. That is a condition of our liquor licence, so it is not something you can opt out of and still come in. Scan records stay with us, with one exception: a ban is shared with other venues on the same system and with police investigating an incident.

Marketing

Marketing consent is a tick box, unticked by default, and tickets, entry and photo access never depend on it. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, or email us and we will action it within five working days. We do not sell your information and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.

This website

Analytics and advertising cookies run from the moment you open the site, and there is no cookie banner. If you would rather they did not, block cookies in your browser and turn off ad personalisation in your Google and Meta account settings. Our ticketing platform runs its own tracking on its checkout pages, under its own privacy policy.

Who else holds it, and where

We run on other companies' platforms for ticketing, galleries, hosting, email, payments and messaging, and a message you send us may be handled with automated help so we can reply. Most of them are overseas — in the United States, the European Union, Spain, Canada and Israel. We give each of them only what they need and rely on their data protection terms, but those countries' privacy laws are not Australia's. Ask us and we will tell you what we hold about you and where.

How long we keep it

As long as we need it, and as long as tax, accounting and liquor licensing require. CCTV is 60 days. Gallery unlock addresses are 24 months. Photos stay up until you ask us to take one down. Unsubscribing stops the email but does not delete your profile — ask us and we will.

Seeing, fixing or deleting what we hold

Email info@butterfly73.com and ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. It is free and we respond within 30 days. Some things we may have to keep for a legal or licensing obligation; if so, we will tell you what and why.

Complaints

If you think we have mishandled your information, email info@butterfly73.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not happy with our answer, take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au — you do not need our permission. If there is ever a breach likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and notify the Commissioner.

Under 18s

Butterfly 73 is an 18+ venue and our marketing is for adults. If you believe we hold information about a child, email info@butterfly73.com and we will delete what we can.
